You can meet many irreplaceable, precious friends in ShILC!! You can learn Japanese culture and language from the friends.
You can broaden your world in Japan so much :)！
Most oversea people in Shiga work as an English teacher. Other people are working for a factory of Japanese company. Anyway, as long as you work hard, you can meet only limited people in your daily life.
In ShILC, you can meet really good friends in language meetings after you work at noon. Our meeting starts from 20:00 on Friday. It is convenient for most workers. You can join in the meetings as a volunteer English talker free of charge. Your participation is really appreciated, since Japanese members would like to learn English and the culture of your country.
We also have events like parties, BBQ, a one-day trip, and a camping trip. These events also help you to make good friends!
Making friends is the best way to know Japanese culture.
You may learn Japanese in a language school or a university. You may however feel that Japanese studied in the school is different from that Japanese people speak. The Japanese language on the texts is actually too much formal and different from conversational one.
So, it is the best way to master real Japanese is making Japanese friends. ShILC is one of the best places to make Japanese friends, since all Japanese members in ShILC have interests in international communication.
We also have the events. You can know Japanese culture and custom though joining in the events.
Of course, you can get useful information of Japan from ShILC members.
Voice from participants
- Albert(25)[Otsu] ：I came Japan to go Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU) located in Kyushu, Oita prefecture, Beppu city. I could make so many friends there. I then moved to Otsu city in Shiga prefecture to work for a Japanese company. I felt it was much difficult to meet people, since I worked all the time. I found ShILC at the time. I can meet many people and make many friends here. I'm also glad that I can introduce the culture of my county. I feel my participation is appreciated by Japanese members. It is really my pleasure.
Mike(24)[Canada]：I worked at a country side of Shiga as an ALT. There were few people in the region. So, I decided to join in ShILC to meet more people. People in ShILC were really kind and I could make many friends. I have just come back Canada and started to go to a university again for taking a license. I won't forget the experiences in ShILC.
Mikako(21)[Otsu]：I decided to study abroad using a system of my university next year. I thought I have to improve my English before leaving Japan. I didn't however have enough money to go an Eikaiwa school. I found ShILC at the time. I can speak with oversea people and know the culture of other countries. I really thank to the Oversea volunteer English talkers!
Why can I make so good friends in ShILC?
Your participation is really appreciated in the language meeting!
All people in ShILC are interested in learning English and knowing the culture of other countries. So, the participation of oversea people are really appreciated in the language meetings as a volunteer English talker. You can make many friends in this meeting.
We talk about various topics like "festivals in your hometown", "what you want now", and "what you want to eat in spring". You can naturally talk along these topics.
You can have good experiences which are difficult to have by yourself.
We have many events like a party, BBQ, a one-day trip, and a camping trip. You can visit various places in the camping trip. We have visited world heritages and famous landmarks in Japan. You don't have to check how to go there by yourself, since Japanese members guide you.
You can have interesting experiences in the one-day trip. We went for picking strawberry, making a pottery, playing tennis, picking edible wild plants, making glass arts, visiting a beer factory, and climbing a mountain. You have to read Japanese instructions and reserve them in Japanese to experience these things if you go there by yourself. Since Japanese members reserve them instead of you in ShILC, you don't have to reserve them by yourself.
The participation fees are reasonable, since ShiLC is a non-profit group.
